A Visit From Our Favorite Aunt Janet

Kenny's Aunt Janet came into town this past week with her former middle school students (she retired this past summer.) She was able to be a chaperon for one last time as the kids did a 3 day tour of DC. It's been almost a year since we last saw Aunt Janet and so the kids were really, really excited to see her. Originally we were going to go in the city and spend some time with her, but with all the kids I have, with Sarah Kate in school, and with Janet's schedule it didn't work out. Instead of going into the city, Janet came down Thursday night with her son Kyle (he lives in Alexandria, just north of here) and took us to dinner. She told us to choose a place the kids would like, so we all met at Pizza Buffet. It was great fun seeing her and she seemed as happy to see us. Sarah Kate, of course, had to sit by Aunt Janet and tell her everything she's learned in school and show her anything she could think of. Ben had to sit by Kyle (Ben's a really big fan of Kyle who watched our kids for us while we were having Gracie) and poor Kyle had to listen to Star Wars and Transformer talk all night. He was a good sport and I get the feeling he likes Ben as well. Our kids were in heaven and did a lot of showing off.

The kids with Kyle at dinner. We love having visitors and going to Pizza Buffet. Doing both at the same time made for a wonderful evening.

Walking back to the car after dinner. Luckily for Janet the weather was very nice the entire time she was here.

After a yummy dinner we all came back to our house and kept Janet and Kyle out way longer than we should have. The kids did more showing off, some dancing, and even more storytelling and then it was time to put them to bed. Once in bed the adults got to catch up on life and just be adults (I think that was nicer for me than anyone else there.) It was very nice to have family over. We don't get that very often out here and even though it was just for a short time, it was a wonderful uplifting evening, just like visits with Janet always are. We can't wait to see her and all the rest of the Holderness clan next month on the cruise.

Janet holding baby Grace. It was the first time Janet had seen her, and Janet commented on how much she looks like Hannah. Gracie really liked Janet and any attention she got.

Spending time with the two older girls! Janet was great to listen to stories even if they came from Hannah and she couldn't understand what Hannah was saying.

I look forward to checking out your blog. I read a few entries. You are great about writing a lot about everything. Most of the time I just post pictures. I think my writing is terrible. And you are so good about letting you kids paint. I always freak out about messes.
