Sarah's Family Party

I had to put in the heading that this was a family party and not a friend party, because it was very disappointing to Sarah Kate. You see, we only have friend parties every other year starting with the 5th birthday and so for Sarah Kate this was an off year. It was very, very disappointing to her, but I think she managed to have fun anyway. We met Daddy down at 'Pizza Buffet' (really called CiCi's Pizza) after work for Sarah Kate's birthday dinner. (Sarah wanted to go to Chuck E Cheese's, but being a school night there wasn't time for that and a party, Shucks!) 'Pizza Buffet' happens to be one of the kids favorite places to eat and on most weeknights it's a very nice place to eat, weekends are a little crowded. This particular night happened to be fundraiser night for one of the local elementary school so the place was packed. We still found a seat and managed to have a good time.

Sarah Kate amazed with her Barbie movies.

After dinner we came home to open presents and have cake. We played the hide the presents game with Sarah, just like we did with Ben, only Sarah's were hidden a little harder. She loved finding them all and then being able to open them all. I must say that after all the running around I did, I do think Sarah Kate did well on her birthday presents and that she enjoyed them. Let's see, Sarah Kate got a soccer goal from Ben, a pink soccer ball from Hannah, 2 Barbie movies from Gracie (it's nice to discover things years after they were first big because you can get them so much cheaper) and some Disney figurines and a microscope from Mom and Dad.

Playing with her soccer goal.

Sarah Kate loves Princess' and Barbie, but has never really been into playing with dolls and barbies. I think she likes the idea of them more than actually playing them. Along with that she has recently decided that instead of wanting to be a firefighter when she grows up (that's what she has wanted to be since she was about 2) she now wants to be a scientist. For this reason we thought she might like a microscope, and we were right. It has been a lot of fun for Sarah Kate, and for Daddy as well. We've looked at blood (thanks to Daddy's finger) water from a nearby stream (yuck), bugs and other things we could find. It's fun having a little scientist in the family and watching her get so excited and ask so many questions. I need to catch up on my science.

Sarah Kate's other big gift was a bike. She got her other bike when she was 3 and has really outgrown it so we thought it was time for a new, bigger one. Kenny got the great idea of hiding it in the bathroom and after all the presents were opened and played with we told Sarah she needed to go potty. We haven't had to tell her to go potty in years so she was a little confused, but when she finally obeyed and opened the door she was sooooo surprised. She never thought she'd find a bike in the bathroom. She road it around the house a little until we were able to get the cake ready for her. What a great party.

Sarah Kate is beautiful! I'm glad she had a great party. You did a fantastic job on the cake. Pretty much anything you do is really impressive to me since you have four kids. Good work!
