Day 2 in Zions was our biking day. We picked Zions because we thought it would be the best National Park down there for biking. We loaded our bikes on the trailer that Kenny had been working so hard to build, and they traveled so nicely the entire way. Too bad our alternator didn't travel as nicely. The car had been acting kind of strange for a while so Kenny decided to bring his tools with us. A couple hours into the drive we figured out the alternator was going out. We stopped in Cedar City and bought one and Kenny spent the morning of the second day switching out the alternator in the van. Not the greatest way to spend the morning, but we're glad we didn't end up stranded on the side of the freeway somewhere.

After the alternator had been switched we all climbed on our bikes and headed up the canyon. I'm so bugged at myself because I didn't get a picture of us on our bikes and I didn't get a picture of the bikes on the trailer. I'll have to do better next time. The kids did great on the bike ride. It was a steep climb and they surprised me with how well they road. It was so much fun to watch them. When we got up to the lodge we had some snacks before heading on our hike.
By the time we started the hike to Emerald Pools the sun was already starting to go behind the mountains. We knew we didn't have a ton of time so we decided to only see the lower Emerald Pool and not take the longer hike to the upper pool. The hike was beautiful and the kids enjoying it very much. The pool itself was also pretty cool. Definitely worth the short hike.
Enjoying the water as it feel off the rock cliff on the hike to Emerald Pool. |
The kids really liked all the stairs made out of rock. |
