There's a Mystery at the Birthday Party

For Christmas this year Grandma Gass got Sarah the first few books of the Nancy Drew series.  She has fallen if love with them and we've been searching the library for the rest of them ever since.  Because of her new found book love she decided that she wanted to have a mystery birthday party this year.  I totally didn't do it justice, but she enjoyed it and that's all that matters.

When her friends arrived I had each of them decorate a notebook and they each got their own pen.  What girl detective can do work without a pen and notebook, right!  The girls enjoyed it and it was a nice time filler while we waited for everyone to arrive.
Decorating notebooks.
After notebook decorating we headed straight downstairs for our annual birthday balloon popping.  The girls were a little unsure at first, but I think after they understood what we were doing, they really enjoyed it.  After the balloon pop we went back upstairs for cake.  In keeping with the Nancy Drew theme, I made Sarah a question mark cake.  It was blue, her favorite color, and according to the girls it was delicious.

The blue question mark cake with way too many candles.  :)
Blowing out all 10 candles.
The girls eating cake and ice cream.  Yum.

After cake came presents.  Everyone LOVES presents.

After presents we found a mystery on our hands.  All the girls goody bags with their winnings from the balloon pop and their notebook and pen in them were missing.  There were clues left behind and the girls were able to go on a hunt around the house looking for more clues.  They had a lot of fun and I really enjoyed watching them get so excited with each clue.

Bri reading a clue in the toy room.
McKinley got to read the clue in the laundry room.

Veronica read the last clue in the big kids room.

The girls finally found their bags under the desk.
We finished the evening off by adding a little light to the darkness.  We painted the girls fingernails with glow in the dark fingernail polish just in case they needed a little light on a dark mysterious night.  It was a lot of fun for the girls and Sarah really enjoyed getting to spend some time with most of her friends.
